20世纪80年代末，罗马尼亚正处在齐奥塞斯库独裁统治末期。民主被剥夺，秘密警察横行，人民噤若寒蝉，苟且偷生。
在一个偏僻乡村，马帝家大女儿17岁的女孩爱娃（Doroteea Petre 饰）正经历一段美好的爱情，她的男友亚历山大（Ionut Becheru 饰）是邻居秘密警察（Grigore Gonta 饰）的儿子。两人无意中打碎了教学楼走廊内的齐奥塞斯库的雕像，最终导致爱娃被送往工读学校。在那里，她结识了渴望自由的男孩安德烈（Cristian Vararu 饰），两人甚至制定了一个逃出罗马尼亚的计划。
他们的计划被爱娃年幼的弟弟拉拉里路（Timotei Duma 饰）得知，分外依赖爱娃的小男孩为了留住姐姐，开始和小伙伴密谋推翻齐奥塞斯库的政权……
